Proactively Creating a Home Inventory List

If you experienced a major loss, you would file a claim with your insurance company. The insurance company would ask for an inventory of all the items that were damaged and needed to be replaced. Could you provide this? It seems like a simple request, but most homeowners actually have no idea what they own or its value. Consider the following examples:

  • How many towels do you own? What brand are they? How much would it cost to replace them?
  • How many books do you have? Hardcover or softcover? What are their brands and replacement values?
  • How many outfits do your kids’ have? What are their brands and replacement values?

Were you able to answer these “simple” questions off the top of your head? Probably not. However, the collective value of the items that you own is probably at least in the tens of thousands of dollars, and for many people, is worth hundreds of thousands of dollars. If you’ve suffered a major loss, you will have to recreate this list from memory, likely forgetting many items and therefore losing the insurance compensation you would have received for them.

Your best defense against finding yourself in this situation is to proactively create a home inventory list. Begin your home inventory list by selecting a room. Starting with the most valuable items in the room and working to the least valuable, photograph and list out each item, the brand, and the replacement value -if you know it. If that sounds like too daunting a task, another option is to narrate a video of the room, discussing each item. Make sure to include any drawers and narrate the items in the drawers as well. Work your way through each room in the house. We suggest updating your inventory annually.

While it’s fine to keep a copy of your home inventory list on your phone, make sure to have a back-up saved in the cloud or on a thumb drive in a bank vault or other secure location.

If you are the victim of a hurricane, fire, or other major catastrophe, call the public adjusters at Get Paid For Your Claim. If you already have a home inventory list, we will price out the current replacement cost of the items to ensure your insurance company compensates you for their full value. While, in many cases, we can create a home inventory for you (and do all the time for our clients) if you already have one, that will greatly expedite the claims process, giving you access to your money sooner.

Hopefully, you will never need to use your home inventory list, however, if you have a major loss, having the inventory and contacting Get Paid For Your Claim will simplify and minimize the stress of the insurance claims process.

Insurance companies have their own team of experts and insurance adjusters to advocate on their behalf.  At Get Paid For Your Claim, weadvocate for you.  As a licensed and bonded Public Adjuster, we help insurance policyholders who have been forced to use insurance to make a claim.

Our service is fast and to the point.  We get results.  We know how to strategically move the process along, while negotiating on our clients’ behalf toward the best possible outcome — the maximum settlement available.

The earlier a public adjuster is brought into the process, the better the opportunity to help you obtain a more favorable claim settlement. As soon as you engage our team, we swing into action on your behalf.  And, we support you throughout the entire claim process to achieve the maximum insurance recovery.

Prep Now to Minimize Hurricane Damage Later

With summer right around the corner, another hurricane season is upon us. Last year, the beginning of the season was relatively quiet, but the end of the season brought the double header of Hurricanes Ian and Nicole. As a homeowner, one of the most important action steps you can take is to be prepared for a hurricane ahead of time. Having helped thousands of homeowners recover financially after a hurricane, we have seen that those homeowners who are prepared may experience less severe damage and they are less stressed throughout the recovery process. As you are prepping for this year’s season, here are some tips to keep in mind:

Budget-Friendly Tips

  • Keep your gutter maintenance up-to-date throughout the hurricane season. Regularly check for any debris in your gutters and make sure that water can easily flow out. Also make sure that the water from your gutters is routed to flow at least six feet away from your home. If your gutters are shorter than this, you can install gutter extenders. This will help prevent water backing up into any cracks in your foundations or into your home.
  • If you have stucco outside your home, check for and patch any cracks now. This can prevent water from entering into those cracks and causing damage during a storm.
  • Check that your homeowners insurance is up-to-date. If you have made any recent renovations or upgrades to your home, make sure that your policy reflects this. Additionally, save a copy of your policy onto a thumb drive and print out a hard copy. Place both of these in a waterproof bag in case you need to evacuate your home. Save Get Paid For Your Claim’s phone number- 1-888-403-6449 – into the contacts on your phone and print a copy for the waterproof bag as well. If your home is damaged, contact us right away so you can be at the front of the line for making a claim.

Additional Tips

  • If you have standard windows, consider upgrading to hurricane impact ones. These windows undergo rigorous testing to ensure they are able to withstand hurricane-force winds. If the window is hit by a projectile, it may spiderweb, but will remain intact, preventing rain and debris from entering your home. A second benefit of hurricane impact windows is that no preparation is required before a hurricane, so you don’t have the stress of a shutter malfunctioning or breaking at an inopportune time.
  • Install a home generator. If your home is without power for an extended period of time, this will allow your air conditioner and refrigerator to keep running, minimizing food spoilage as well as damage from high humidity in the home.

Hurricanes aren’t going away any time soon, but preparation can minimize their destruction and the discomfort and stress they cause. If your home is damaged from a hurricane, or any other cause, contact Get Paid For Your Claim to start the claims process right away to receive the insurance money you are owed.

Insurance companies have their own team of experts and insurance adjusters to advocate on their behalf.  At Get Paid For Your Claim, weadvocate for you.  As a licensed and bonded Public Adjuster, we help insurance policyholders who have been forced to use insurance to make a claim.

How Can I Minimize the Chance of Having Water Damage in My Home?

Water damage is one of the most destructive and costly perils that a homeowner can experience. According to the Insurance Information Institute, water damage and freezing caused nearly 1 in 5 homeowner’s claims in 2020, with an average claim of $11,695[1]. Water damage can be caused by a lack of maintenance or a sudden and unexpected cause, such as a tree branch breaking your window during a storm or an appliance malfunction.

Some of the steps you can take to minimize the chance of water damage in your home are:

  • Have your roof inspected by a professional and repair or replace any missing or damaged shingles to prevent water from seeping in.
  • If you are going out of town, turn off the water main valve to your home. If an appliance breaks or water pipe cracks while you are away, this minimizes the damage that can occur.
  • If you see any leakage from your dishwasher, washing machine, refrigerator, toilets, or other water-using appliances, have a professional check them out right away. Don’t assume it is nothing or that it will go away on its own. The faster you fix any leaks, the less damage you will incur.
  • Keep your gutters clean. Dirt, leaves and other debris can fill up your gutters, trapping water instead of allowing it to drain away from your home.
  • Inspect your showers and tubs for damaged grout and caulk them if necessary.
  • Inspect your windows to ensure they fully close and lock.

What happens if you took steps to prevent water damage but it happened anyway? Homeowners insurance will only pay for claims that are sudden and unexpected. If your home experienced water damage through a sudden and unexpected event, call Get Paid For Your Claim right away.

We will inspect your home to confirm the source of the damage was a covered event. Then, we will file a claim on your behalf with the insurance agency. The insurance company will need an itemized list of everything that was damaged as well as the cost to repair or replace them. This is a herculean task for most homeowners to handle since most people don’t keep receipts for each item they purchased. Don’t despair – Get Paid For Your Claim develops and prices the inventory list for you, so you have one less item to stress about. We even attend the walk through with the insurance company adjuster and point out anything they miss so that your claim is as complete as possible, which can help expedite payment of the full amount of you need. We manage the process every step of the way until you receive your check from the insurance company. Call us today to learn how we can help you receive the compensation you are owed for your water damage.

Insurance companies have their own team of experts and insurance adjusters to advocate on their behalf.  At Get Paid For Your Claim, weadvocate for you.  As a licensed and bonded Public Adjuster, we help insurance policyholders who have been forced to use insurance to make a claim.

How a Public Adjuster Can Help with a Mold Claim

Florida is a paradise for mold spores; our weather features the perfect blend of heat and humidity for mold to proliferate. Once it starts growing, it damages or destroys everything in its path – walls, floors, curtains, furniture, toys, and more. Mold is costly to remediate; for a severe outbreak, a homeowner can spend tens of thousands of dollars to remove the mold and repair or replace the damage it caused. If you discover mold in your home, what are the steps that you should take?

Mold: A Primer

Mold is not just ugly, it can cause serious health problems, especially for immunocompromised individuals or people with lung disease, like asthma or COPD. Mold loves moisture and can grow well on any surface that is moist. After an area has been wet for 24-48 hours, mold starts to grow. Even if you can’t see or smell it yet, it is there. The longer the area is wet, the more mold that will grow.

Homeowners Insurance May or May Not Cover Mold Damage

If you have mold in your home, the first step is to figure out what caused the mold. If it was due to lack of maintenance, lack of using a dehumidifier, or another chronic condition in your home, insurance won’t cover the remediation costs. In general, insurance only pays for mold remediation caused by water damage from covered events, which are sudden and unforeseeable. Some examples of when insurance may cover this include:

  • Hurricane damage
  • A leak from a washing machine or a dishwasher
  • A burst pipe
  • Roof damage due to lightning or a fallen tree branch

If you have mold and you believe it was from a covered event, contact Get Paid For Your Claim. We will review your policy to understand your coverage limits and confirm if mold remediation is included in your coverage. Next, we will visit your home to inspect the water damage and check that the mold was caused by damage from a covered event. We will also develop an estimate of how much it will cost to repair the water damage, remediate the mold, and replace the items that can’t be remediated. You may also be entitled to reimbursement for living expenses if you are unable to live in your home while it is being repaired and remediated. With your permission, we will file a claim with your insurance company and negotiate with them until they pay out the funds that you are owed. While we take care of securing the compensation, you can focus on the more enjoyable parts of the recovery process, such as picking out new paint colors or throw pillows.

Get Paid For Your Claim has helped thousands of homeowners with water damage secure compensation for their claims. Call us today to learn how we can help you.

I Think My Home Has Hail Damage. What Should I Do?

Hail is one of nature’s most destructive elements. In 2021, there were 3,763 significant hailstorms, impacting more than 6.8 million homes in the U.S[1]. Hail can range from pea-sized to softball sized and is most damaging when it is one inch or more in diameter. Hail can wreak havoc with your roof, gutters, siding, windows, air conditioners and anything outside on your property. Following are some tips from the experts at Get Paid For Your Claim about hail damage:

  • Check for dents on your outdoor property. This could include gutters, downspouts, window sills, siding, sheds, etc. This is one of the key signs of hail damage. The dents are often easiest to see in metal. The dents could be tiny or very large, all depending on the size of the hail that fell. There could also be chipped paint on your deck, railings, or home.
  • It’s best to call a professional to examine your roof. Roof damage from hail is often subtle and hard for a lay person to notice. Some of the indications of hail damage include:

    • For asphalt shingles, there will be missing granules on the surface of your shingles. This indicates that the shingles have been hit with a significant amount of force and the waterproofing ability of the shingle has been compromised. There could also be cracked or broken shingles.
    • For clay shingles, there will be cracks, which indicate that the shingles have been damaged and can no longer properly protect your home.

  • You and the professional who examines your roof should take photos of any damage for your insurance company.
  • If you find any damage to your roof or home that could allow water to seep in, immediately tarp or board up the area to prevent additional damage. Don’t permanently fix it until the insurance company has inspected it and given you the ok to repair or replace it.
  • Call Get Paid For Your Claim, one of Florida’s leading public adjusters, to file your claim with the insurance company and manage your entire claims process for you. We will start by reviewing your insurance policy and inspecting the damage first-hand. After filing the claim, we will attend the site inspection with the insurance company adjuster to ensure they properly account for all the damage. Finally, we will negotiate with the insurance company on your behalf so you receive every penny you are owed. You don’t need to worry about being low-balled or spending hours on the phone dealing with insurance company bureaucrats – with Get Paid For Your Claim, you have an insurance expert on your side who will take care of all of this for you.

If you recently experienced a hailstorm and suspect that your home has hail damage, call Get Paid For Your Claim today to start your recovery process right away.

Insurance companies have their own team of experts and insurance adjusters to advocate on their behalf.  At Get Paid For Your Claim, weadvocate for you.  As a licensed and bonded Public Adjuster, we help insurance policyholders who have been forced to use insurance to make a claim.

My Home Was Damaged. Should I Make a Claim to My Insurance Company?

Over time, parts of a home can break or malfunction – roofs leak, toilets overflow – the list of possibilities that can go wrong is endless. If something like this happens, should you call your homeowners insurance company to reimburse you for the costs associated with repairing the damage or replacing it if it is unsalvageable? After all, isn’t that what you are paying for when you pay your premium each month? The answer is not so clear-cut.

Determine the Cause of the Problem

Your homeowners insurance only covers damages that are sudden and unexpected. It does not cover damage from normal wear and tear or from lack of maintenance. For example, if you have a leaky roof from a tree branch hitting your home, that would be eligible for coverage, but if your roof leaks because it is too old and needs to be replaced, that is not covered. If you are unsure what caused the damage you are experiencing in your home, call a professional to inspect it and determine the cause. If you make a claim and the insurance company determines that the cause is not covered by your insurance, they will not cover it.

Contact a Public Adjuster to Handle Major Claims

If you experienced a catastrophic or major loss that you believe is covered by your insurance, your first step should be to call a public adjuster, like Get Paid For Your Claim. We will analyze your insurance policy to have a clear understanding of what is covered. Then, we will come to your home to inspect the damage. We will contact your insurance company for you to file the claim and provide the insurance company with a line-item inventory of damages and the associated repair costs. Allowing Get Paid For Your Claim to contact the insurance company instead of doing it yourself helps prevent communication errors that lead to claim denials. We will even attend the walk-through when the insurance company adjuster visits your home to ensure that they account for all the damage. We are by your side the entire time until the insurance company sends your compensation.

Avoid Making Minor Claims

You should never make a claim for damages that are less than your deductible; the insurance company will not pay you for them. If the damages are slightly above your deductible, ask yourself if you can manage it without the insurance coverage. Insurance companies sometimes drop customers who make claims too frequently. If you are unsure whether or not you should make a claim, contact Get Paid For Your Claim for expert advice.

Holiday Fire Prevention Tips

The winter holidays are a time for family, festivities, and unfortunately, fires. The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) reports that “Between 2015-2019, U.S. fire departments responded to an average 160 home fires that started with Christmas trees per year. These fires caused an average of two deaths, 12 injuries, and $10 million in direct property damage annually.[1]” As one of Florida’s leading public adjusters, our job is to help families pick up the pieces and rebuild their homes and lives after a fire or other major disaster. Following are our top seven tips to help you and your loved ones minimize your risk of a house fire during the holidays:

  • If you purchase a live Christmas tree, make sure it has sturdy, green needles and isn’t dried out. Place the tree far away from any heat sources, such as a fireplace or candles. Water your tree daily to keep it moist. A dried-out Christmas tree can quickly and easily go up in flames if exposed to a heat source.
  • Artificial Christmas trees should be labeled as “fire resistant” so they will be more difficult (but not impossible) to catch on fire.
  • Before stringing up your lights, check the wires to make sure they are in good condition – nothing frayed or worn. Follow the manufacturer recommendations on whether a particular light set should be used indoors or outdoors. Turn out the lights when you leave the house or go to sleep. Nearly one in five Christmas tree fires are started by decorative lights[2].
  • Keep menorahs, kinaras, and all other lit candles far away from any other decorations that are flammable. Similarly, never use lit candles to decorate your Christmas tree; candles start more than one-third of holiday home fires[3].
  • When cooking large holiday meals, the kitchen can become hectic and chaotic. Make it a priority to keep dishtowels, discarded packaging, papers, and anything else flammable away from your cooktop to prevent it from catching on fire.
  • An adult should always be present and attentive when using the cooktop. According to the NFPA, unattended cooking is a leading cause of cooking fires. [4]
  • After the holidays, promptly discard your Christmas tree before it dries out and becomes a fire hazard.

Why Roof Claims are Often Denied and What You Can Do About it

It’s all too common for insurance companies to deny roof claims. A new roof or major roof repair can cost tens of thousands of dollars, and paying out too many of these claims can impact the insurance company’s profitability. So, what’s a homeowner to do? Let’s take a look at some of the reasons why insurance companies deny roof claims:

  1. Wear and Tear

If your roof is older, the insurance company may claim that the damage was caused by wear and tear and refuse to pay your claim. To help prevent this from happening, start by contacting Get Paid For Your Claim. We will bring in experts to inspect your roof. If the experts find that the damage was caused by a recent storm, we will contact your insurance company. When the insurance company adjuster comes, the experts will accompany them on the inspection to point out specifically the damage caused by the storm. We will also provide the insurance company with an estimate to repair the damage or replace the roof (depending on the extent of the damage) to make sure they compensate you based on current market rates. If the insurance company has questions or needs additional information, we will provide that on your behalf. We take care of all of this for you so you don’t have to deal with the insurance company yourself.

  • Previous Storm Damage

The insurance company may claim that the damage to your roof was caused by a previous storm and that the period for filing a claim for that storm has passed. Contact Get Paid For You Claim as soon as you notice roof damage to help prevent this situation. We will go through the same steps as noted above to fight for you to receive the payment that you deserve.

  • Insurance Adjuster Error

After a major storm, insurance companies are rushing to process thousands of new claims simultaneously. In their haste, the adjuster may have made an error about the details of your claim. By requesting that a second adjuster inspects the damage and accompanying them on the inspection, Get Paid For Your Claim will help ensure that your claim is properly paid.

  • Didn’t Meet Deductible

Hurricane deductibles are extremely high. If the damage does not meet the threshold for your deductible, the insurance company will not pay the claim.

  • Claim Filed Past Deadline

Insurance companies have strict filing deadlines for claims. To make sure you don’t miss an important deadline, call Get Paid For Your Claim immediately after the damage occurs and we will handle the entire claims process for you.

If your roof claim was denied, contact Get Paid For Your Claim today. We will review the specifics of your policy and situation and fight the insurance company to make you financially whole again.

Insurance companies have their own team of experts and insurance adjusters to advocate on their behalf.  At Get Paid For Your Claim, weadvocate for you.  As a licensed and bonded Public Adjuster, we help insurance policyholders who have been forced to use insurance to make a claim.

Cleaning Up After Hurricane Ian

Hurricane Ian made landfall as a Category 4 storm, tied for the strongest hurricane to ever hit the Florida west coast[1].  Sustained winds blew at 155 mph and gusts reached speeds of 200 mph[2]. As of the writing of this article:

  • More than 2.6 million Floridians are without power, including more than 90% of power customers in Lee County[3].
  • 2.5 million people were forced to evacuate[4].
  • Citizen’s Property Insurance, one of the largest insurers in Florida, expects to see 225,000 claims related to Hurricane Ian damage, causing $3.8 billion in losses for the company[5].

If you are one of the many people whose home or business property was damaged by this monstrous storm and are trying rebuild your life, know that you don’t have to do this alone. Contact Get Paid For Your Claim at 1-800-635-8111 to speak with one of Florida’s leading public adjusters who will fight for you every step of the way.

How Get Paid For Your Claim Can Help You

Insurance companies have their own adjusters who will inspect the damage when you make a claim. Since they are paid by insurance companies and the insurance companies are expecting record claims and losses, they will likely try to pay you as little as possible.  In contrast, a public adjuster is a professional who works for you and advocates for you to receive the highest settlement possible to rebuild your home and property. With Get Paid For Your Claim on your side, you can feel peace of mind knowing that that an insurance professional is working on your behalf while you focus on taking care of your family and property and returning your life back to normal.

Here’s how our process works:

  • Once you contact us and send us a copy of your insurance contact, we will analyze it to understand all the details of your coverage.
  • We will come to your property to inspect the damage. As part of our inspection, we develop a detailed line-item budget based on current market costs of all the items that need to be replaced or repaired and share this with your insurance company.
  • We will file your claim with the insurance company on your behalf.
  • Any time an insurance company adjuster or other expert needs to inspect your property, we will always be present to ensure you have expert representation, just like the insurance companies have.
  • We manage all communications and negotiations with the insurance company to help ensure you receive all the compensation that you are owed for your losses.

You don’t need the stress of dealing with the insurance company on top of everything else you are experiencing right now. Call the experts at Get Paid For Your Claim at 1-800-635-8111 to handle it for you.

Do I Really Need a Public Adjuster? Won’t I Save Money by Doing This Myself?

After experiencing damage to their home or property, many homeowners start the rebuilding process by calling their insurance company, filing a claim, and working with the insurance company’s adjuster to determine how much the insurance company will pay them. For a minor claim with a relatively low dollar value, this process can work well. However, everything changes with a major or catastrophic loss.

If you have fire damage, water damage, hail damage, or another loss that costs in the tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars to repair, paying out your claim can impact the insurance company’s profitability. As such, it is in their best interest to pay you as little as possible. Unless you work in the insurance industry, you are unlikely to know all your rights under your insurance contract and know the true costs of repairing the damage to your home. This is where a public adjuster can help you. A public adjuster is an expert in deciphering insurance policy jargon and understanding the maximum coverage to which you are entitled. Moreover, they are experts in inspecting homes and evaluating construction costs, giving them insight into the true costs of repairing your home. They will fight the insurance company for you to receive the maximum possible compensation, rather than accepting the lowball offer that the insurance company may provide on their own.

As one of Florida’s leading public adjusters, at Get Paid For Your Claim, we achieve tangible financial results for our clients. Here are some examples:

  • An insurance company paid $6,800 to a homeowner for a water leak. After the homeowner retained us, we were able to prove there was extensive additional damage that was not originally accounted for, and renegotiated a new settlement for $20,000.
  • After Hurricane Irma, a homeowner experienced roof damage, allowing water intrusion into the home. The insurance company estimated the damage at $8,559.82, which was only marginally more than their deductible. The homeowners then contacted us and we were able to negotiate another $51,257.11 in compensation.
  • In another Hurricane Irma example, a homeowner was offered only $787.12 by their insurance company. We inspected the damage and provided the insurance company with a detailed list of their losses and negotiated an additional $155,000 payment for the homeowner.
  • A homeowner who experienced a water leak from her bathtub on the second floor onto the ceiling of her first floor was offered $3,500 by her insurance company. We invoked her insurance policy’s appraisal clause and were able to increase the insurance company’s offer to $38,000.

These are only a few of the many case studies showing the value that Get Paid For Your Claim can provide. Contact us today to learn how we can help you recover the full value of your damages.

Lightning Hit My Home! Will My Insurance Cover This?

The temperature of a lightning bolt can be as hot as 50,000 degrees Fahrenheit, five times hotter than the surface of the sun[1], so it’s no wonder they can cause such devastation. According to the Insurance Information Institute, in 2021, Florida property owners made 5,339 insurance claims for lightning strikes, the highest of any state in the nation, with a collective value of $88.3 million[2]

What To Do If Your Home Suffers Lightning Damage

A lightning strike can cause varying levels of damage ranging from a few broken electronics and singe marks to complete destruction of your home. If it is safe for you to enter your home, take photographs and videos of all the damage throughout the house. Don’t clean anything up or throw anything away – even if it is damaged beyond repair. The next step is to call Get Paid For Your Claim at 1-800-635-8111. One of our licensed public adjusters will analyze your insurance policy to understand your coverages and come out to promptly inspect the property for structural damage, cosmetic damage, and personal property damage. If your home is uninhabitable, you are also entitled to receive compensation for living expenses, such as hotel and restaurant bills, clothing, and other necessary personal items. We will then file a claim with your homeowner’s insurance company and request compensation for all of these items. We are experts at working with insurance companies so we can minimize the likelihood of your insurance company denying your claim.

The next step is for your insurance company to send one of their adjusters to inspect the lightning damage. We will accompany them during their inspection to ensure that they are aware of and factor in all the damage to your home, whether it be damage to the wiring, singe or burn marks, fire and smoke damage, roof damage from the lightning strike, or damage to electronic devices. We will also provide the adjuster with our cost estimates to repair the damage.

If the insurance company provides an initial offer that is too low, which they often do, we will negotiate on your behalf to increase the offer until they provide the maximum compensation available under your contract. By having Get Paid For Your Claim handle this, you can focus on repairing and rebuilding your home rather than dealing with the added burden and stress of fighting with the insurance company.

Lightning strikes happen all too often in Florida and leave life-altering remains in their shadows. If your home has been hit by lightning, contact Get Paid For Your Claim today. Our licensed public adjusters are experts at fighting insurance companies so you can receive the funds you need to rebuild your life as soon as possible.

Reopening A Closed Insurance Claim

After your home experienced a significant adverse event, the insurance company paid your claim, you cashed the check and started on the repair work. But perhaps by the time you completed the repairs, the actual costs to repair your home or replace the broken items exceeded your insurance compensation?  Or, perhaps during the reconstruction process, additional damage was found, increasing your costs significantly. When this happens, many homeowners don’t know where to turn and erroneously believe their only option is to pay the increased costs themselves. However, under Florida law, you can request that your insurance company re-open your claim. At Get Paid For Your Claim, our public adjusters are experts in helping homeowners navigate the tricky world of reopening closed homeowners insurance claims.

According to Florida Statue 627.70132, homeowners can reopen a closed insurance claim for up to two years from the original date of loss. This is true even if you have already cashed the check from the insurance company. You are eligible to re-open a closed insurance claim if the insurance company reimbursed you for actual cost instead of replacement cost for repairing the damage, or if they denied the claim but you feel that the claim was valid. The first step in the process is to contact Get Paid For Your Claim to review your insurance policy, all communications you have had with the insurance company, any photos or videos of the original damage, and contracts with contractors completing the repair work. We will also come out, inspect the site of the damage, and develop our own line-item estimate of the costs for repair or replacement. After that, with your permission, we will contact the insurance company to re-open the claim.

When we re-open a claim, our first step is to send the insurance company the new information and our estimate with a sworn proof of loss. Depending on the situation, we may request that the insurance company adjuster return to the property for another field inspection. We aim to secure additional compensation through negotiation with the insurance company. In some cases, the insurance company may not want to negotiate. If this happens, we may enter into a mediation or appraisal to secure resolution for your claim.

Re-opening a closed insurance claim by yourself can be time-consuming and a hassle, but with Get Paid For Your Claim by your side, we manage all the heavy lifting and make the process as seamless as possible. Don’t accept a lower level of compensation than you deserve. If your insurance company has closed your claim, but you feel you deserve more, contact us today.

For a free inspection and claim consultation, please contact us at any of our convenient Florida locations.

How to Prepare for a Hurricane

Hurricane season is here again. These powerful storms cause billions of dollars of destruction in just a few hours. It can take significantly longer for insurance claims for hurricane damage to be resolved than other types of claims due to the large number of policy holders simultaneously making high dollar value claims. Your best defense against this situation is preparing your home and property ahead of time to minimize the amount of damage that you incur. Following are Get Paid For Your Claim’s top tips to help you prepare to weather a hurricane:

Prevent Projectiles

The high windspeeds during a hurricane create projectiles from outdoor objects of all sizes. These can break your windows or doors, creating a dangerous situation with extensive damage. They can also break the windows on your car and cause enough damage to its body to total it. To minimize the risk of objects on your property causing this, we recommend:

  • Trimming all large trees and branches as well as taking down any dead ones.
  • Taking inside all patio furniture, toys, portable fire pits, etc. For items that are too large to take inside, such as planters, or swing sets, tie them down with a strong rope.

Test and Close Shutters

Over time, shutters can rust, become dented, or may malfunction. Well before a hurricane comes (ideally before the start of the season), test all the shutters on your home to ensure they function as they should. If they don’t, repair or replace them right away.

Once a hurricane is imminent, close the shutters and keep them closed until the storm has passed. Similarly, if you are planning to go out of town for any length of time, close your shutters in case a hurricane comes while you are away.

Repair the Roof

Water damage is one of the costliest repairs that homeowners can face from a hurricane. Missing or damaged roof shingles can allow water to seep inside and spread throughout your home, often far from the original point of entry. While insurance can provide monetary compensation for the lost items, treasured photographs and family heirlooms will be lost forever. Hire a roofer to inspect your roof and make any necessary repairs well in advance of a hurricane.

Ensure You Are Insured

Do you live in an area prone to flooding? If so, make sure your flood insurance is up to date. Regular homeowners insurance won’t cover damage caused by flooding.

Save an electronic copy of your homeowner’s insurance on your phone and on a finger drive. Print out a copy and store it in a waterproof container in your evacuation bag. Also add Get Paid For Your Claim’s phone number  – 1-800-635-8111- to your contact list on your phone. If disaster hits, first call Get Paid For Your Claim and let us know the details of your situation. Then, forward us your insurance policy to review. With your approval, we can manage the entire claims process on your behalf.  You handle putting your life back together, we will handle the insurance company.

Keep Your Home Safe While You Are Away

The weather is starting to sizzle, so vacation season must be here! Whether you are moving back up north for the summer to escape the heat or visiting family for a long weekend, you need to safeguard your home while you are away. As one of Florida’s leading public adjusters, our team at Get Paid For Your Claim has witnessed the devastation that can occur when a home is unoccupied. Following are our suggestions for how to keep your home safe while you are away this summer:

  • Unplug all non-essential appliances to help prevent electrical fires. This includes clocks, televisions, computers, lamps, toasters, etc. An added bonus to unplugging is saving on your electricity bill while you are away.

  • Nothing screams “unoccupied home” to a vandal more than a pile of packages sitting outside your front door. Make sure to cancel your newspapers and forward or hold your mail while you are gone. A couple weeks before leaving, stop ordering packages to help prevent them from arriving while you are out of town. In addition, make sure to tell a neighbor you will be traveling and ask them to pick up any packages, flyers or other materials that do arrive while you are gone.

  • If possible, turn off the water main to your home before leaving. Water damage is one of the most common and most costly repairs that we see. If there is a burst or leaky pipe while you are away, not only will you be repairing the water damage, you will also be remediating the mold damage, which many insurance companies don’t cover.

  • If you will be gone for an extended period of time, prepare your home for a hurricane. Close your hurricane shutters (if you have them), take in any outdoor furniture or objects that could become projectiles, and tie down any large objects that you can’t move. A hurricane can obliterate your home in a matter of minutes and it is far better to complete the prep work in case one comes than have to deal with the aftermath.

  • Also, if you will be away for an extended period, give a friend or family member a key to your home and ask them to periodically check on it to make sure there are no signs of a break-in, water damage, or any other major structural damage that needs immediate attention.

The team at Get Paid For Your Claim hopes you have an enjoyable and uneventful vacation season. If you do come home to an unexpected and unwanted surprise of a damaged home, remember that you are not alone. Call us right away at 800-635-8111 and one of our public adjusters will promptly come to your home, inspect the damage, and work with your insurance agency to secure the highest possible compensation for you.

What To Do If Your Business or Home is Vandalized

As you are pulling up, you immediately see that the windows have been completely broken. Shards of glass are everywhere. The inside has been ransacked and covered in graffiti. Waves of panic set in – who did this? How long will it take to clean up? Will my insurance cover this?

If your business or home has been vandalized, the first step is to call the police and file a police report. Depending on the extent of the damage, vandalism can be classified as a misdemeanor or felony. Specifically, if the value of the damage is under $1,000, the crime is a misdemeanor. If the vandals caused more than $1,000 of damage or “if there is interruption or impairment of a business operation or public communication, transportation, supply of water, gas or power, or other public service,” then the crime is a third-degree felony[1]. Because of this, it’s important not to clean or make any changes to the site so the police can thoroughly investigate. You will need a copy of the police report for filing an insurance claim.

The next step is to take photos and videos of the vandalism so that the insurance company can see exactly what happened and the condition of your property. If you have photos from before the vandalism, that would be helpful to provide as well, so the insurance company can view a before and after comparison.

At this point, if you have broken windows or doors, you can board those up to prevent water intrusion or additional theft / vandalism. However, hold off on any permanent or non-urgent repairs or clean-ups.

The good news is that most business and home insurance policies cover vandalism. While the specifics of each policy vary, for home insurance, you are likely entitled to compensation for repairing the physical damage, replacing destroyed personal items, and temporary living expenses, such as a hotel or rental apartment while your home is being restored. For a business, you are generally entitled to repair or replace all damaged items and can receive compensation for business interruption, such as income, payroll, taxes, and mortgage / rent.

Securing the full potential value of your coverage can be complex for a vandalism claim, especially if theft is involved as well. Rather than handling this yourself, call the experts at Get Paid For Your Claim. We will promptly come to your business or home and inspect the damage. We may take additional photos and videos to build a compelling case that will prove the full extent of the damage to the insurance company. We can even file the insurance claim on your behalf. When the insurance company adjuster comes, one of our adjusters will accompany them to ensure that they accurately record the damage and its associated repair costs.

Not all public adjusters are experienced in handling vandalism claims. To maximize the compensation you recover, hire a public adjuster who has a track record of success in managing these types of claims, like Get Paid For Your Claim. Contact us today at 1-800-635-8111.

The Telltale Signs of Water Damage

The prospect of water damage is terrifying to most homeowners, as it should be – it is the second most frequent loss, topped only by wind and hail claims.  Moreover, the value of the average water damage claim is more than $11,000. How can you tell if your home has water damage? Make sure to be alert for these telltale signs:[1]

  • Mold growth
  • Discolored walls or ceilings
  • Soft, wet walls or ceilings
  • Loose tiles
  • Buckling or warped wood floors
  • Musty, mildewy odor
  • Insect infestations

Causes of Water Damage

Water damage can be caused by a sudden, unexpected event, like a storm, burst pipe, or an appliance malfunction. It can also be caused by lack of maintenance or a gradual deterioration of roofing or plumbing over time. If your home is damaged by water, it will be important to know the cause before contacting the insurance company. Homeowners insurance only covers water damage that has been caused by a sudden event. If you file a claim and later discover that the damage was caused by a gradual deterioration over time, the insurance will not cover it.

What To Do If Your Home Experiences Water Damage

Job number one is to figure out where the water is coming from and fix that condition so the situation stabilizes. If it is coming from damaged plumbing or an appliance, turn off all water to the house. If you suspect it may be coming from a damaged roof, arrange for a roofer to inspect your roof as soon as possible. Take photographs and videos of the damaged structure and any associated damage, such as ruined carpets, toys, furniture, etc. Then, call Get Paid For Your Claim. We will thoroughly review your policy to understand what your coverage includes. Our next step is to personally inspect your property and develop a line-item budget that details the cost of repairing or replacing all the damage. If you have experienced a covered loss, with your permission, we will contact the insurance company to start your claims process. We will navigate the recovery process with your insurance company until you have received the maximum compensation possible for your damage.

If your home has water damage, time is of the essence. Contact Get Paid For Your Claim to start your recovery process today.

Don’t Fall for These Insurance Company Tricks

The primary objective of a homeowners insurance company is to protect you financially in the event of a disaster – right? Wrong! The primary objective is actually to return a profit to their shareholders. When an insurance company pays out a large number of high value claims, that reduces their profitability. So, even though you rely on your insurance company to help you in your moment of need, it is in their best interest to pay you as little as possible. Following are some of the ways that insurance companies accomplish this:

Confusing Policy Language

Insurance policies are notoriously confusing to read. Some parts can be vague while other parts are loaded with minutiae. They also contain a significant amount of legalese and insurance industry jargon. If your home has experienced water damage, a roof leak, fire, wind damage, or any other peril, you don’t need to decipher your insurance policy yourself to determine if it is covered. Call Get Paid For Your Claim and one of our public adjusters will analyze your policy and advise you of your coverage, free of charge and without obligation.

Delay, Delay, Then Delay Some More

Is your insurance company not returning your calls? Are they slow to respond to your emails? The insurance company may be hoping that you will feel annoyed enough to give up. Don’t give in to the frustration! Contact Get Paid For Your Claim. Our skilled public adjusters are expert negotiators and will handle the hassle of dealing with the insurance company for you. Once you give us permission to negotiate on your behalf, we will take care of all communications with the insurance company so you can focus on everything else in your life.

Denying or Undervaluing Covered Perils

Similar to the delaying tactics, this tactic is designed to encourage you to walk away with less money than you deserve. The insurance company may tell you that a covered peril is not covered, or they may undervalue the extent of your loss. If you accept their claim denial or lowball offer at face value, they will save thousands of dollars. At Get Paid For Your Claim, we see games like this every day. We recently helped a homeowner with a water damage claim receive $15,000 when their insurance company denied the claim outright. Another client of ours was given a lowball offer by their insurance company after having significant hurricane damage. We interceded and the insurance company ultimately paid out an additional $54,000 in compensation.

Public adjusters, like Get Paid For Your Claim, work for you. We are paid when you are paid. In contrast, the insurance company loses money when you are paid. If your home has suffered significant damage, don’t deal with the insurance company on your own. Contact Get Paid For Your Claim. We will manage the entire insurance process for you and work resolutely to ensure you receive the maximum amount of funding possible.

Fire and Smoke Damage

There are few situations in life scarier than a home fire. Get Paid For Your Claim understands just how devastating a home fire can be. We have helped thousands of homeowners secure funding from their insurance companies to rebuild their lives. If you are the victim of a home fire, call Get Paid For Your Claim right away to begin the process of rebuilding your life.

House Fires in the U.S.

House fires happen all too often. In 2020, there were 379,500 fires in residential buildings in the United States[1]; that’s more than 1,039 fires per day. Collectively, they caused more than $8.7 billion of property loss[2]. The leading cause of home fires is cooking, which triggered 49% of home fires between 2015-2019[3]. Another leading cause was electrical wiring malfunctions, which ignited about 10% of all home fires[4]. Of all the leading fire causes, electrical fires are responsible for the greatest amount of property damage[5].  Smoking is a third leading cause of home fires. In 2014, smoking materials caused approximately 17,200 home fires, resulting in $426 million in property damage[6].

Smoke Damage

Even if fire doesn’t destroy a home, the smoke from it can. A fire may be confined to a small portion of the house, but its smoke can seep throughout the structure, rendering it temporarily uninhabitable. Smoke is a combination of soot and grease. Not only is it unsightly, but it causes a strong lingering odor and can trigger lung problems, skin problems, headaches, and carbon monoxide poisoning. Smoke remediation must be completed by a licensed and qualified remediation company.

Moving On from a House Fire

The first step after a house fire is to contact Get Paid For Your Claim. We will come to your home to inspect the damage firsthand and develop a detailed list and budget of all the items that need to be remediated or replaced. We will then file a claim with your insurance company. When your insurance company sends their adjuster, we will participate in the walk-through with them to ensure that they note the full extent of the damage. When the insurance company makes a settlement offer, we will persistently negotiate until we secure the maximum amount possible for your damages. You have been through enough already; let Get Paid For Your Claim handle the hassle of dealing with the insurance company for you.

Cast Iron Pipes

Was your house built during or before the 1970s? If so, your house may be sitting on a ticking timebomb – cast iron pipes. This type of pipe was regularly installed in Florida’s houses for decades. However, there is a risk that they can literally destroy your home from the ground up. This year alone, Get Paid For Your Claim has recovered more than $300,000 for claims related to cast iron pipe failures.

Why Are Cast Iron Pipes a Problem?

Cast iron pipes were originally installed under house foundations as plumbing lines, both for clean water and sewage. Over time, as water interacts with the iron in the pipes, hydrogen sulfide gas is created. This gas can oxidize and create sulfuric acid, which corrodes the pipes from the inside out. In addition to this, the high moisture and salt content in Florida’s soil corrodes the pipes from the outside in. The end result of all of these corrosive elements is that the pipes, which were originally thought to last 80-100 years, only have a lifespan of less than 50 years.

Signs and Symptoms of Corroded Cast Iron Pipes

Some common indicators of pipe failure are:

  • Slow drainage
  • Water back-up in sinks or toilets with a rusty build-up or sediment
  • Cockroach infestation
  • Sewer gas odor
  • Mold
  • Off-color water
  • Warped wood floors
  • Discolored floor tile or grout

If your home is experiencing any of these issues, your first step is to contact a plumber to snake a tiny video camera through your pipes to check for corrosion. Get Paid For Your Claim can recommend licensed plumbers if you don’t already have one. If corrosion is found, immediately contact Get Paid For Your Claim to begin the claims process with your insurance company.

Repairing Corroded Cast Iron Pipes

Generally, it is not practical to replace a small section of corroded pipe. To properly fix the issue, it is necessary to dig up all of the cast iron pipes from under the foundation and replace them with PVC piping. The cost for doing this can run from $10,000 to more than $100,000. Insurance companies are known to undervalue or deny these claims due to their high cost. They may claim the corroded pipes were caused by pre-existing damage, normal wear and tear, or improper maintenance. In fact, recently, some insurance companies started specifically excluding corroded cast pipes from their policies.

What You Should Do

If you have corroded cast iron pipes, call Get Paid For Your Claim today. We will carefully analyze your homeowners insurance policy to understand your coverage, contact the insurance company, and file a claim on your behalf. We will negotiate tirelessly until we have received the maximum settlement possible from your insurance company to cover replacing your pipes and any ensuing damage that the corroded pipes have caused. Don’t delay – you don’t want to find you have a problem later on, after your insurance company has excluded cast iron pipe repairs from your coverage.

Insurance companies have their own team of experts and insurance adjusters to advocate on their behalf.  At Get Paid For Your Claim, weadvocate for you.  As a licensed and bonded Public Adjuster, we help insurance policyholders who have been forced to use insurance to make a claim.

Don’t Say _______ to Your Insurance Company!

When you call your insurance company to make a claim, how you initially describe the incident can impact whether the claim will ultimately be approved and, if so, how much will be paid. What is the best approach to making your claim that will maximize the amount of funds that you are eligible to receive? Following are some tips:

  • Call the Pros

The best option is to let a public adjuster, like Get Paid For Your Claim, handle the call for you.  After disaster strikes, instead of immediately calling the insurance company, contact us first. With your permission, we will contact the insurance company and file your claim. We will speak to the insurance company using their lingo, provide the detailed documentation they need, and even manage any follow-up questions that the insurance company may have. When the insurance company sends their adjuster out to review the damage, we will accompany them to ensure that they understand the full scope of the damage. Allowing Get Paid For Your Claim to manage the communications with your homeowners insurance company can help minimize the opportunity for undervalued or denied claims, as well as help you receive the full amount of funding that you need to rebuild your property.

If, however, you prefer to handle the communications on your own, we suggest that you keep the following in mind:

  • Flooded / Flooding

If a pipe bursts and your first floor is covered in water, don’t describe it as “flooded”. To an insurance company, flooding means that groundwater has entered your home. Most importantly, homeowners insurance does not cover flooding, so you will not receive coverage for it. If you have a burst pipe and water entered your home as a result, the proper way to describe that is “water damage.”

  • Wear and Tear

Sometimes roofs leak due to damage from a storm or other sudden, unpreventable occurrences. Other times they leak due to normal wear and tear or age. If your roof is leaking, it’s important to know why before calling the insurance company. Many homeowners are unaware that insurance does not cover roof leaks due to wear and tear. If you make a claim for a roof leak due to wear and tear, your premium may go up or your insurance company may choose not to renew your policy, even though the insurance company will deny your claim. For this reason, if you have an older roof and it starts leaking after a storm, it is especially important to call Get Paid For Your Claim so that we can advise on the best course of action.

  • I think… or I guess…

When you make an insurance claim, don’t speculate. Stick to the facts. If you don’t know the answer to something, just say so. Along the same lines, it’s important to accurately represent the situation; don’t exaggerate the damage.

If you have suffered a major loss, you have enough stress already. Let the professionals at Get Paid For Your Claim handle filing your claim and working with the insurance company for you.

Insurance companies have their own team of experts and insurance adjusters to advocate on their behalf.  At Get Paid For Your Claim, weadvocate for you.  As a licensed and bonded Public Adjuster, we help insurance policyholders who have been forced to use insurance to make a claim.

What Should I Do if My Home Insurance Claim is Underpaid? Or Denied?

Your insurance company’s website is brimming with images of happy families and features testimonials from satisfied clients. Up until now, you had been one of them, promptly paying your premium bill each month, feeling safe knowing that if something happened to your home, they would take care of you. Then it happened. You made a claim and the insurance company either underpaid or denied it outright. If this sounds familiar, the expert public adjusters at Get Paid For Your Claim can help rectify the situation so you can obtain the funding that you need to rebuild your home.

Get Paid For Your Claim is one of Florida’s most accomplished public adjusters. If your homeowners insurance claim has been denied or underpaid, contact us right away. We will start by analyzing your policy in detail to understand specifically what your contract requires of the insurance company. We will then review the denial or underpayment letter from the insurance company so we know why your claim was not paid in full. We will also review the documentation that you provided to the insurance company to see the full picture of the situation. Finally, we will conduct our own on-site tour of the damage and develop our own assessment of its value.

Depending on the specifics of your situation, we may take one of the following next steps:

  • Request an appeal of the decision and submit more robust documentation based on our findings.
  • If the case has been closed, ask the insurance company to re-open the case and negotiate with them, using the findings from our investigation to demonstrate why their denial or underpayment was in error.
  • Request a second insurance adjuster comes to evaluate the damage. When the adjuster comes, we will attend the walk-through with them to show them specifically why their original estimate was incorrect and why they should increase their offer.
  • Request an appraisal. In an appraisal, an adjuster from the insurance company, one of our adjusters, and a neutral third-party, called an umpire, will all tour the damage together and discuss its value. Either the two adjusters come to an agreement on the value or, if they cannot, the umpire makes the final determination as to the value of the damage that both parties agree to accept.

We have a strong track record of success in securing compensation for denied claims and supplemental compensation for underpaid ones. Don’t delay! Insurance companies often have strict deadlines for appealing a decision. Contact Get Paid For Your Claim today to start the process of rebuilding after your loss.

Insurance companies have their own team of experts and insurance adjusters to advocate on their behalf.  At Get Paid For Your Claim, weadvocate for you.  As a licensed and bonded Public Adjuster, we help insurance policyholders who have been forced to use insurance to make a claim.

Leaky Roof After a Storm? Here’s What to Do

Your roof is one of the most important structural elements of your home. It protects your family and all your possessions. A damaged roof can lead to secondary problems, such as water damage and mold damage, both of which are costly and difficult to repair.

If your roof is damaged in a storm, contact Get Paid For Your Claim right away. We will send a licensed public adjuster to your home to meet with you and personally inspect the damage. After reviewing our findings with you, if you retain us, we will contact your insurance company immediately and file a claim on your behalf. At Get Paid For Your Claim, we understand that time is of the essence – most insurance companies have filing deadlines that must be met after your home is damaged. In addition, by filing quickly, you will also benefit by having the insurance company adjuster come evaluate the damage sooner, so you can start the repair process faster.

Next, we will analyze your homeowner’s insurance policy to determine your coverage. The first item is your deductible, which is the amount of money that you are responsible for paying before the insurance company pays anything. For a typical storm, most deductibles are specific dollar amounts between $500 – $5000. For a hurricane, most deductibles are either 2 percent, 5 percent or 10 percent of the Dwelling coverage. This means that most people will have to pay much more out-of-pocket to repair damage caused by a hurricane than a typical storm.

The second item we will determine is whether your policy covers replacement cash value (RCV) or actual cash value (ACV) to repair your roof. RCV means that the insurance company will pay the full cost (minus the deductible) of repairing or replacing the roof. ACV means that the insurance company will factor in the age of the roof and will depreciate the cost of repairing or replacing the roof based on its age.

When the insurance company adjuster comes out, they will closely inspect the roof and determine how much the insurance company should pay out for the damage. One of our public adjusters will attend this inspection and speak directly to the insurance company adjuster to help resolve any differences of opinion about the value of the damage. This can significantly reduce the likelihood that the insurance company will undervalue or deny the claim.

While you are waiting for a resolution to your claim from the insurance company, don’t make any immediate repairs to the damage. However, it’s important to do what you can to prevent the damage from becoming worse. This could include putting up tarps over the damaged areas of the roof, moving furniture away from any wet areas, and putting out buckets to catch leaks. You should also consider hiring a mitigation company to dry the property so as to prevent mold. We have several companies that we can recommend.

Finally, remember that you are not alone as you go through this. At any step in the process, you can contact us with additional questions or concerns. If your roof is leaking after a storm, contact us right away. The sooner you call, the sooner we can help you receive the compensation you are owed.

Insurance companies have their own team of experts and insurance adjusters to advocate on their behalf.  At Get Paid For Your Claim, weadvocate for you.  As a licensed and bonded Public Adjuster, we help insurance policyholders who have been forced to use insurance to make a claim.

Benefits of Hiring a Public Adjuster into the Claims Process As Soon As Possible

Many homeowners try and work with their insurance company on their own after experiencing a major loss. They don’t know that they can hire a professional who is versed in insurance policies and who could help them. This can result in undervalued or denied claims. Don’t let this happen to you. If you suffered a major loss, whether from a storm, fire or other event, call a public adjuster right away. Here are three reasons why you should hire a public adjuster as soon as possible in the claims process:

  1. Understanding Your Policy

Insurance policies are notoriously full of jargon and legalese that are difficult to understand. Public adjusters are experts in analyzing insurance policies to learn all of your rights and coverage that the insurance company promised you in the policy. This can enable the public adjuster to file a more comprehensive initial claim with the insurance company than if you tried to do it alone.

  • Words Matter

Words that are used interchangeably in everyday conversation can have a different meaning to an insurance company. For example, “water damage” is covered by homeowners insurance but “flooding” is not. Public adjusters know the right terminology to use when filing your claim so that you can receive the maximum amount for your loss in the minimum amount of time. This helps minimize the chances of the insurance company undervaluing or denying your claim.

  • Rapid Site Inspections

The sooner a public adjuster can inspect the site of the damage, the better. This will give them the most accurate perspective on the level of damage that you experienced. The public adjuster will tour the site to identify structural issues that need to be addressed; finish work, such as woodwork or wallpaper, that needs to be repaired or replaced; and personal items that need to be replaced. On top of this, they will develop a line-item estimate for these items. This prevents you from having to locate and contact multiple contractors to secure bids on fixing the damage, as well as having to spend your time and effort valuing furniture and personal items that may have been purchased years ago or no longer have receipts.

In addition, by hiring a public adjuster right away, they will attend the walk-through of the damage site with the insurance company’s adjuster, which can give the public adjuster the opportunity to work through any potential differences of opinion between them and the insurance company’s adjuster even before the insurance company adjuster submits their estimate.

After a major loss, letting a public adjuster handle the entire claims process can help expedite approval of your claim and help you receive the full amount of compensation that you are owed. Don’t wait for the insurance company to undervalue or deny your claim. By hiring a public adjuster to manage the claim process right from the start, you may be able to resolve your claim faster and receive more compensation for it.

How the Insurance Appraisal Process Plays a Role in the Claims Process

After discovering home damage from a storm, or an interior pipe or appliance leak, you file a claim with your homeowners insurance company. They offer to settle your claim for $10,000. Your research indicates that the damage will cost more than $100,000 to repair. The insurance company refuses to budge. How can you receive the compensation you deserve?

The Insurance Claim Appraisal Process

The next step in the process may be an insurance claim appraisal. This is a faster and less costly process than a lawsuit.

If you read through the details of your homeowners insurance policy, you may find a section called “Appraisal.” In this section, it notes that if the homeowner and insurance company cannot agree on the value of a loss, then both parties may resolve their dispute through an insurance claims appraisal process.

In this process, each party hires and pays for an appraiser of their choice. An appraiser is a trained professional who estimates the cost of repairing the damage caused by the covered peril. The two appraisers agree on an umpire – a third professional who acts as a neutral referee between the two appraisers. The cost of the umpire is split 50/50 between the homeowner and the insurance company.

Both appraisers and the umpire will inspect the damage and develop estimates for repairing it. The three of them will discuss their findings on site. If they cannot come to an agreement, the umpire will have the final say. The findings of the appraisal process are binding.

It’s important to note that the appraisers and umpire evaluate the value of the damage – they do not evaluate whether or not the damage is covered by the insurance policy.

Finding an Insurance Claim Appraiser or Umpire

It is essential that you hire an experienced appraiser and umpire who is an expert in the field, such as Dan Labow of Get Paid For Your Claim. Dan received both his appraiser and umpire certifications from the Insurance Appraiser and Umpire Association (IAUA) and the Windstorm Network, the 2 leading organizations governing the appraisal process. Dan has served as an appraiser and/or umpire in resolving hundreds of insurance disputes and has the experience and know-how to maximize your chances of receiving the largest possible settlement.

If you need an expert appraiser or umpire to support you through the insurance claim appraisal process, or if you need any assistance at all in resolving your homeowners insurance claim, contact Get Paid For Your Claim. From appraisers and umpires to public adjusters, we have a top-notch team assembled and ready to fight to help ensure that your insurance company gives you the compensation that you deserve for your loss.

The Importance of Using a Public Adjuster

Managing a complex or high-value insurance claim can be tricky. Many homeowners lack in-depth knowledge about repair and replacement costs for their home and possessions. Many more don’t fully understand the coverage details in their jargon-filled homeowners’ policy. On top of this, emotions often run high after a major loss.

Who can you trust? Is anyone really on your side?

The answer to both questions is a public adjuster.

What Are Public Adjusters?

After you make a claim, the insurance company will send an adjuster of their choosing out to examine your home and property. That adjuster will calculate how much money they believe the insurance company should reimburse you for your loss. The insurance company adjuster represents the needs of the insurance company.

In contrast, a public adjuster is a licensed professional adjuster that you, the homeowner, hire to:

  • Carefully analyze your insurance policy to understand your coverage limits,
  • Inspect your property and develop a comprehensive budget to properly reimburse you for your losses,
  • Negotiate with the insurance company on your behalf to maximize your recovery settlement.

The key difference between an insurance company adjuster and a public adjuster is that a public adjuster represents you and puts your needs first. An insurance company adjuster puts the insurance company first.

Why Should I Hire a Public Adjuster?

Hiring a public adjuster provides you with several benefits:

  • Access to a team of experts. At Get Paid For Your Claim, we have assembled a multi-disciplinary team to handle all facets of your claim. This includes building estimators, contents appraisers, specialty appraisers, engineers, and certified public accountants. Depending on the needs of your specific claim, we will call in the expertise of our team members to develop a highly-compelling case to prove to your insurance company that you need to receive the maximum funding possible.

  • Access to cutting-edge technology. We use advanced moisture detection devices to find moisture penetration behind walls or beneath floors; thermal photography to locate leaks, plumbing, and HVAC issues; drones to capture images of property loss; and the Matterport, a high-resolution 3D reality capture device that can show minute details of your loss to the insurance company. Our high-tech approach can set the foundation for a strong claim to your insurance company.

  • Access to peace of mind. After a major loss, it’s important to focus on your personal health and wellbeing – both physical and emotional. By having a team of experts managing your insurance claim, you can avoid the added stress of dealing with the insurance company. Instead, you can feel confident and assured that you have an expert team managing that process for you, so you can start putting the pieces of your life back together.

If you have suffered a major loss and need to make an insurance claim, call Get Paid For Your Claim at 1-800-635-8111. No matter where you are in the claims process – from the initial call to the insurance company to re-opening a denied claim, we can help.

Most Common Property Damage Claims in Florida

Florida has been dealing with severe hurricanes throughout history. Hurricane season typically brings several threats and often, two or more storms that wreak havoc on daily life in the state. Luckily, not all of these storms turn out to be catastrophic, but the southern part of the state has experienced its fair share of devastation in modern history.

Many people who are not even residents of Florida recall Hurricane Andrew in 1992. The category 5 storm left 65 people dead and is considered the most destructive to ever hit Florida. Andrew was one of the costliest hurricanes to make landfall anywhere in the country and caused more than $25 billion in damages. The storm stripped many homes throughout Miami-Dade County down to their concrete foundations.

More recently, in 2005, Hurricane Wilma did significant damage in South Florida and resulted in almost $17 billion of damages. It caused at least five deaths directly and 26 indirectly. The storm hit Broward and Palm Beach Counties especially had.

In 1960, Hurricane Donna caused 13 deaths and hundreds of injuries. It was the most damaging hurricane up to that point in history with $350 million in damages. It features storm surges of up to 13 feet throughout the Florida Keys and sustained deadly hurricane force winds for significantly longer than any storm that came before it.

These three storms are arguably the worst to strike Southern Florida, but they are by no means the only storms to cause significant damage.

So what happens in the wake of a devastating hurricane? How do the people of Florida recover after a severe storm?

Meet Urgent Needs and Consider Safety

Your first consideration after a hurricane passes (and during the hurricane, too, for that matter) is safety. Steer clear of flood waters, never try to move or repair power lines that have fallen, and report all gas leaks to local utilities. Stay abreast of updates from the local health department and power company and throw away any food that might have spoiled if you lost power for more than a few hours.

Rely on Community and Government Aid

Once you are out of the initial danger period, recovery begins. Typically, government and community organizations come into the area to help residents recover. They might bring supplies, funds, and guidance to help with filing insurance claims and other tasks that need to occur.

This can be a frustrating time, but it is important to remember that everyone in the community is going through a similar experience. Do not be afraid to ask for help and be as patient as possible as your community begins to rebuild.

Improving Infrastructure for the Next Storm

Finally, recovery after a hurricane involves preparing for the next storm. As nice as it would be to assume the worst is over, and it might be for a period of time, there will always be another storm and as history shows, it could very well be more powerful than the ones that came before it. The damage from the current storm can inform communities and help them be more prepared for more powerful storms in the future.

How a Public Adjuster Can Help You for More than Just Hurricanes

There are many reasons people contact public adjusters in the state of Florida. It is common to think public adjusters are called upon most primarily for hurricanes, but that is not the case. While there has been a recent rash of hurricanes in the Sunshine State, there actually was a 11-year gap between 2005 and 2016 when no hurricanes hit the state.

Public adjusters are helping consumers on a more frequent basis with issues that aren’t related to natural disasters like hurricanes. It is important to know that public adjusters can help you in many situations. So when should you give a trusted public adjuster a call?

Public adjusters can help you after damage from any storm or natural disaster. They are able to provide an assessment of the damage to homes and automobiles and other property, and can provide you information about filing your claim with the insurance company.

Hiring a public adjuster makes it possible to cut through a lot of the red tape. They hasten the process of your claim and can offer assistance if your claim is denied or delayed. A public adjuster represents you and the sooner you bring one into the process of placing your claim the better.

Public adjusters work for you – not insurance companies. They will file your claim with the insurance company and prepare a written estimate. Then they can handle a lot of the negotiating on your behalf. Working with a public adjuster after a disaster of any kind levels the playing field and allows you to go toe-to-toe with the insurance company. Adjusters have battled insurance companies before and they are not intimidated by then. They also know a lot of the tactics that are used by insurance companies to scare off property owners – and they do not fall for them.

And though an adjuster is a valuable resource following a hurricane, this is not the only situation when you would want to turn to an adjuster. They can be there for you anytime there is damage to your property, be it through storm, wind, smoke, fire, earthquake, flood, vandalism, or theft.

If you are home suffers any damage from broken pipes, toilet leaks, air condition leaks, fires, smoke or wind, a public adjuster will work on your behalf.

Consider turning to a public adjuster for any of the following reasons:
• You don’t have time to deal with the insurance company demands
• You are confused about your policy
• Your damage is extensive
• The insurance company is trying to quickly pay you off or discouraging you from hiring a public adjuster
• If you are getting the run around

Public adjusters can be an excellent resource to get you through a tough time and get you the claim you deserve. Remember, they act as an expert advocate on your behalf in any home damage situation, and you don’t it to be a severe weather situation like a hurricane to employ their help.

As a Business Owner, Should I Hire a Public Adjuster?

Filing a property insurance claim can be one of the most stressful experiences you will ever endure, especially as a business owner. Filing a claim as a business is different  from filing a personal claim. It lacks the emotional aspects of a personal claim, but this does not mean it is any easier.

What are the Reasons Business Owners
Can File a Claim?

There
are several reasons a business owner might be able to file a claim. For
instance:

  • They own property and experience a loss
    directly related to that property
  • They experience a loss of goods as a result of
    a covered loss
  • They suffer a business interruption

As
a business owner, you need to be concerned about how your losses will affect
your business both short- and long-term. Not to mention, business owners do not
have the time or ability to wait around for insurance companies to stall and use
their manipulative tactics. Working with a public adjuster means you will have
a third-party handling the situation and working on your behalf. He or she can
review your policy and negotiate with the insurer to ensure the most efficient
settlement of your claim.

What are a few specific reasons a
business owner should hire a public adjuster?

Improve Your Chances of Getting the

interest to get you as much as possible. Public adjusters review the fine print
in your policy and are able to make the most of your situation – literally.
Since they are benefitting from you, they work hard to create the best possible
arrangement.

Leave No Stone Unturned

A
public adjuster’s full-time job is to review your policy, identify damages, and
make the most of every claim. Their entire focus on is on settling your claim
in the best way possible for you, so you do not need to worry about anything
being missed. Many business owners do not even realize what types of damages
they can claim, but public adjusters do know. They are able to uncover problems
that would go unnoticed by the insurance adjuster.

Focus on Priorities While the Work
Gets Done

Filing
an insurance claim can be time-consuming and any time a business owner’s focus
is pulled away from his or her primary responsibilities, the business suffers.
Working with a public adjuster means you will be able to focus on your business
while the adjuster works on your behalf. Business does not stop because of an
insurance claim – at least it should not – and a public adjuster will make sure
it does not need to.

Speed the Claims Process

It
is no secret that filing an insurance claim can be a long and arduous process.
Working with a public adjuster speeds things along and allows business owners
to put their loss behind them. Public adjusters not only keep things moving
along, they know the tactics of the insurance company and understand the process,
so you will avoid many of the most common delays when filing a claim.

Filing a property damage claim as a business owner can be a significant drain on your resources and time. All too often, this drain occurs when your business needs the most attention. The goods new is working with public adjusters enables you to reduce stress, get a bigger settlement, and put the entire ordeal behind you as quickly as possible.

How Drones Help in the Public Adjuster Process

When you experience damage to your property, the last thing you want is for your claim to be denied or for you to receive a lowball settlement value.

A public adjuster can work on your behalf to ensure that the
insurance company has all of the information it needs to process the claim and
that it properly processes it. If necessary, a public adjuster can adjust a
claim or provide supplemental information so that the claim is accurate and
detailed.

But what makes public adjusters so beneficial is they can also
utilize cool and modern technology to help you with your claims.

At Get Paid For Your Claim, we utilize drones to evaluate your damaged property and it has been crucial in having successful claims for our clients. So, how do we use drones as part of our process?

Use
Drones

At one time, public adjusters used ladders to get on top of a damaged roof and prove a claim. Today, technology is available through the form of drones that makes this job easier and safer. Technologically adept public adjusters like Get Paid For Your Claim utilizes drones to get video footage of homes we inspect that we can use to support the claim.

Drones make the claims process more efficient so that we can
provide more information in less time. We can take photographs or video from a
number of angles, a better method than the traditional use of a ladder and
camera.

(Insert video of drone here on website)

Use
Other Advanced Technology

At Get Paid For Your Claim, we can also take advantage of other available technological advances, including sophisticated software that provides an independent evaluation of damage. This software often contains important data regarding the average repairs in the area and the measurements of the damaged area to more accurately assess damages.

Artificial intelligence can help identify damage, make accurate
measurements and make the claims process more efficient to assist with the
decision-making process. We have the option to use a variety of mobile apps to
help expedite the claims management process.

These apps may help capture pictures, upload them to a claims
management system and perform remote damage assessment on the damage.

Create
a Digital Record

We can also create a digital record. This can help preserve
important evidence, speed up the claims process and improve the communication
between the public adjuster and claims adjuster. A digital process also
provides instant access to important information.

You can check out cool footage of our drones on our website, www.getpaidforyourclaim.com.
